Music Enrichment for K-3:

Robinson Elementary Education Foundation, Inc. has provided funding to bring a music enrichment program to students in Kindergarten  at Robinson Elementary school for the 2006-2007 school year.

Introduction"My name is Sue Christman-Morris (Mrs. Morris), and I will be teaching music in Kindergarten.  My musical background is professional choral singing.  I have sung with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and the Pacific Chorale, and I am a church musician.  I play the piano as accompanist for Robinson Elementary School chorus.  My hobbies are singing, sailing, bicycling, playing bridge, getting together with family, traveling, and gardening.  I am also a computer programmer and web designer.  I live in Mission Viejo with my husband, our son, and Orbit, the wonder dog."

Our Goal.  The goal of our Kindergarten music enrichment program is to introduce our  students to music using active participation.   We hope to show your children that music is fun and brings a delight and richness to life.

Each class will have music time for 30 minutes a week from October through June.  Your children will be introduced to the following elements of music:  rhythm, pitch, melody, harmony, timbre, dynamics, meter, tempo.  The musicians in each class will give performances during the year for parents and families.

Skills to be taught:

Kindergarten:  Finding the beat, moving to the beat,  playing percussion instruments in time with the beat, singing in unison, reading simple rhythm patterns.

Instruments:  In class we will make two simple instruments from ordinary household materials.

Kindergarten students will make bamboo claves and a plastic tube slide whistle.
